Domestic partnership legislation advances

Nevada is prohibited by its constitution from joining states, most recently Vermont and Iowa, where gay marriage is legal. But legislation is making its way through Carson City that would give same-sex couples who enter domestic partnerships the same benefits as married couples. After Iowa ruling, LV churches take differing views on gay marriage

Many local couples crossed the border to make their relationships legal. That window closed in November, when California voters passed Proposition 8, limiting marriage to heterosexual couples. About 18,000 same-sex marriages were validated in California before then, and they still have the same legal rights there....

Bill would give gays same rights as married couples

Gay couples could have the same rights and responsibilities as married couples, under a bill introduced in the state Senate. Senate Bill 283, sponsored by Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas, calls for a new type of civil contract for domestic partnerships, under which domestic partners would have the same rights, protections and benefits as spouses, former spouses, widows or widowers....
