Marriage News Watch began under the name "Stop8.org" in 2008, during the election battle over Prop 8. Initially, the plan was simply to produce a few short video interviews with LGBT couples about why marriage is so important to them.

After the election, we switched gears and started compiling daily news reports about the fight to overturn Prop 8. As two years rolled by, we began producing weekly video recaps of the week's headlines.

And after some time, it became clear that the name "This Week in Prop 8" simply didn't make sense, since there's so much news happening in other states. And thus, "Marriage News Watch" was born.
