At his visit to the Statehouse, along with members of the Standing Up For New Hampshire Families organization, Mehlman held a short media availability, stating he was stressing the popularity of the state's law and the need for Republicans to be the party of personal liberties and freedom. He said polling data showed that state residents supported the same-sex marriage law by a two-to-one margin. Mehlman also said repealing the law could hurt the state's economy.
