Civil-unions bill gains traction among Colorado Republicans

Backers of civil unions in Colorado say there is growing support for their measure, and no one is a better symbol of that changing landscape than Sen. Shawn Mitchell.
The Broomfield Republican said Monday he is considering supporting a civil-unions bill when it comes to the Senate floor.
Only a few years ago, a bill Mitchell introduced about teaching human sexuality served as the catalyst for wealthy gay activist Tim Gill to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars helping Democrats win office.
