Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie has signed into law a bill legalizing civil unions for heterosexual and homosexual couples. That makes Hawaii the seventh state to extend such recognition and rights to same-sex couples.

Don't rush to Maui just yet: Couples will have to wait until Jan. 1 to tie the slip knot.
