Nov 23, 2010: Prop 8 Trial on TV and on the Ballot: This Week in Prop 8 for November 22, 2010
Put a big star on the calendar on December 6th, because that's when we'll see the next high-profile court date for Prop 8. But it'll go by quickly: just a few hours of lawyers making arguments in front of appellate judges, and then it's all over. We'll get a decision a few weeks later. And the good news: it'll all be televised this time, unlike the 9th circuit trial, so you won't have to use your imagination if you want to see what went on in court. Meanwhile, Equality California's released their financial papers this week, and they've clearly been having a rough time. Donations are down, and they'll have to cut staff and close offices. Their former marriage equality guy, Marc Solomon, has parted ways with the organization, though Executive Director Geoff Kors says that they're in good financial shape. If a Prop 8 repeal makes it to the ballot in 2012, it's likely that EQCA would be involved in some capacity. That is, if they're still around, and if the oral arguments on December 6th don't hasten Prop 8's demise through judicial channels. |
