Nov 29, 2010: Good News as Prop 8 Battle Nears Next Milestone: This Week in Prop 8 for November 29, 2010
Breathe a sigh of relief: Kamala Harris has won the race for California's Attorney General, beating anti-gay Republican Steve Cooley. Harris, formerly the District Attorney of San Francisco, has pledged to defend equal marriage, while Cooley wanted to defend Prop 8. And speaking of defending Prop 8, we're now just one week away from oral arguments in Perry v. Schwarzenegger. There've been a few last-minute tweaks to the schedule, so now might be a good time to plan your viewing party. Some familiar names made headlines this week, and not always for the reasons they wanted. Kristina Schake, one of the founders of the organization brining suit against Prop 8, is taking off to Washington to work in Michelle Obama's communications office. And The American Family Institute (a front organization for anti-gay activism) was annoyed when the Southern Poverty Law center pegged them as a hate group. |
