It's just been one big terrible wave of suicide lately, with so many young LGBT kids killing themselves it's hard to keep track.

Who's to blame? That's hard to say, but surely some culpability lies with Mormon leaders like Elder Packer, who earlier this month called gays immoral and unnatural. He has so far refused to apologize. In fact, many Mormons have rallied to support him.

Meanwhile, young gay kids, many of them Mormon, continue to struggle with depression, low self-worth, and even rejection by their family -- all caused by despicable people like Packer, whose words kill kids.

The only remedy for this kind of animus? Sunshine and visibility. Expose those whose actions harm gay kids. This week, one of the Prop 8 backers fled from a scheduled panel when he learned that it would be televised -- but they can't hide for ever. One of the judges who may hear the Prop 8 appeal recently wrote in favor of allowing cameras in the courtroom.

It's only a matter of time before the real physical harm done by anti-gay laws and speech is made unavoidably clear.

Hopefully, we won't have to bury too many more children before that happens.
