May 25, 2010: Harvey Milk, a Rent Boy, and a Trial Caught on Tape: This Week in Prop 8 for May 24, 2010

This weekend wasn't just the very first official Harvey Milk Day: it was also a prime opportunity for canvassing, fundraising, and gearing up for the 2012 election. EQCA had a full slate of activities planned all around the state, with nearly 1,000 volunteers going out to knock on doors and bank up support. That Prop 8 repeal may not be happening this year, but it'll be here before you know it.

The Rekers "Rent Boy" scandal found its way to California this week when Think Progress identified at least four ties between the not-at-all-gay Baptist minister and the Prop 8 trial. It's more bad news for the anti-gay side, which has suffered from a string of discredited witnesses. As before, the civil rights groups are pushing to televise the closing arguments, which would certainly be an entertaining watch, considering how embarrassing things've been for them lately.
