Apr 5, 2010: Gubernatorial Enemies, Allies, and Lesbian Sisters: This Week in Prop 8 for April 5
Gubernatorial primaries are scooting towards us (June) and the general election isn't far behind (November), so Arnold Schwarzenegger and his successors are increasingly top-of-mind. A couple of news articles gasped this week about Republican candidate Tom Campbell, who's polling strongly amongst Republicans despite being friendly with gays. Yes! That's right! A Republican who opposed Prop 8! They exist! And this one could be Governor. That's if he can beat back challengers Steve Poizner, Carly Fiorina, Chuck DeVore, and Meg Whitman, all of whom are pretty anti-gay and therefore are likely to have gay sex scandals lurking in their closets. In Governator news, Arnold put a stop to a race that was looking a bit tempestuous: Anne Marie Schubert, the lesbian sister of Prop 8 mastermind Frank Schubert, was going to run for a Sacramento County Superior Court judgeship. But Arnold made a last-minute appointment that blocked her campaign, so she's giving up, returning campaign donations, and going back to a quiet life of doing lesbian stuff. |
