I know UNC lgbt groups have done things like public kissing (with straight & gay couples alike participating) which certainly got plenty of local coverage. A statewide hand-holding day might be an interesting variation on this. Arranging groups to meet at various malls across the state to walk around holding hands, which is certainly something our allies could get involved with, seeing gay & straight couples holding hands and showing the similarity in that small public display of affection would project a good image.
